The Simple Things
02:36
|
|||
My coffee in the morning,
my cigarette at dusk,
laying my head down at night...
The simplest things in life
are worth their weight in gold.
Like precious heirlooms,
their worth inflates as I grow old.
My favorite song while driving,
a painful fit of laughs,
the feeling of her hand squeezing mine...
The simplest things in life
are worth their weight in gold.
Like precious heirlooms,
their worth inflates as I grow old.
I've tried to content myself
with the completion of my grand schemes,
but I'm always left disappointed
when their complete, it seems.
The simple things in life
are worth their weight in gold.
Like precious heirlooms,
their worth inflates as I grow old.

Mind Reader
03:40
|
|||
If I were a cryptographer
I could decipher your face.
If I were a cartographer,
I could tell you why your eyebrow's out of place.
But you know I'm not a mind reader.
I can't tell you why you're wearing that frown tonight.
I'll act as mediator, but I can't do my job
if you're not willing to fight.
Might be a heavy-weight bout,
but at least we can work it out.
You know that if I were able,
I'd peer into your skull of lead,
but I'm not telepathic, baby.
You've got to let me know what's going on in your head.
Because you know I'm not a mind reader.
I can't tell you why you're wearing that frown tonight.
I'll act as mediator, but I can't do my job
if you're not willing to fight.
I'm willing to let you shout
if it'll help to relieve all your doubts.
Might be a knock down drag out,
But at least we can work it out.
So, now I'm giving you permission
to fire verbal munition
and slander my good name
if you'll make it your mission
to relay your heart's condition
and tell me what's to blame.
So won't you let me in,
even if I'm the one who's guilty as sin?

Put Your Gadgets Down
03:53
|
|||
What a glorious night for a walk.
How convenient, because I would love to talk
to you.
So, leave your phone at home,
take it down from it's throne.
Let me get you all alone!
I know it's hard for me
to be as interesting as a glowing screen.
But if you put your gadget down,
if you take a look around,
you'll find beauty in all that surrounds you.
Would it really be so tragic, dear,
if you left your stupid gadget here
tonight?
Will the sky really fall,
do you think you'll lose it all,
if you don't answer every call?
I know it's hard for me
to be as interesting as a glowing screen.
But if you put your gadget down,
if you take a look around,
you'll find beauty in all that surrounds you.
Just for one night
neglect, neglect, neglect
your digital friends.
Just for one night,
connect, connect, connect
to your physical friends.
I know it's hard for me
to be as interesting as a glowing screen.
But if you put your gadget down,
if you take a look around,
you'll find beauty in all that surrounds you.

I Ride the Bus
03:29
|
|||
I collected my change,
bought a cup of cheap, black coffee,
the Styrofoam, it warms my hands.
I transmit my grime,
I spread my dirt across this
pure white cup of mine.
And I ride the bus
just to get warm.
Watch the same tired sights pass by
until they kick me off.
Just a bout of bad luck
I haven't begged fora dime
because my pride won't let me hold up a sign.
But everyone averts their eyes.
I'm just a smudge on this world,
black as the filth on this cup of mine.
And I ride the bus
just to get warm.
Feel the same fleeting glances
in the angry eyes that pass me by.
No, this sidewalk is not my home.
I'm just waiting here
for the tides to change my way.
And I swear I won't stay long.
This is not my first foray
into the depths of adversity.
But until my feet
get back on solid ground,
I'll ride the bus
just to get warm.
I collect my change,
buy a cup of cheap, black coffee,
and spread my grime on this cup of mine

In Ft. Worth all the neon's burnin' bright
Pretty lights red and blue
But they'd shut down all the honky tonks tonight
And say a prayer or two
If they only knew
You used to say the highway was your home
But we both know that ain't true
It's just the only place a man can go
When he don't know where he's travelin' to
But Colorado's always clean and healin'
And Tennessee in Spring is green and cool
It never really was your kind of town
But you went around with the Ft. Worth Blues
Somewhere up beyond the great divide
Where the sky is wide and the clouds are few
A man can see his way clear to the light
Just hold on tight
That's all you gotta do
And they say Texas weather's always changin'
And one thing change'll bring is somethin' new
And Houston really ain't that bad a town
So you hang around with the Ft. Worth Blues
There's a full moon over Galway Bay tonight
Silver light over green and blue
And every place I travel through, I find
Some kinda sign that you've been through
But Amsterdam was always good for grieving
And London never fails to leave me blue
Paris never was my kinda town
So I walked around with the Ft. Worth Blues
